Does this sound familiar?
Nothing dramatic has necessarily happened. You may still be capable, respected and grateful for what you have. Yet something feels different.
You do not hate your job. You simply no longer feel energised, fulfilled or connected to it in the way you once did.
You wonder whether you are ungrateful, lacking confidence, burnt out—or expecting too much from work.
You want more purpose, flexibility or energy, but you do not want to risk your income, identity or family stability on an impulsive decision.
The real shift
Motherhood can change your priorities, identity, capacity, values and what you need from work. When you change but your career stays the same, friction is a natural response—not evidence that you have failed.
This is not about convincing you to leave your job. It is about understanding what your career needs to become for the woman you are now.
There is more than one right answer
Once you understand the source of the disconnect, your next step may be smaller—or more significant—than you first imagined.
Reconnect with the work you already do by changing boundaries, expectations, confidence or how you use your strengths.
Reshape your current career through flexibility, progression, a different role or a more suitable working pattern.
Take your experience into a role, organisation or sector that fits your priorities and ambition now.
Create a new professional direction when your current career genuinely belongs to a previous version of you.
The Rising MOM approach
Rather than beginning with job titles, CVs or resignation plans, we begin by understanding who you have become and what your working life needs to give back.
Identify what no longer fits, where the friction lives and why it matters now.
Reconnect with your present-day values, strengths, needs, identity and definition of success.
Move beyond guilt, confusion and inherited expectations into clarity and self-trust.
Design and act on a career direction that fits your life, family and ambition now.
What changes when you have clarity
The goal is not simply to feel better about work for a week. It is to understand yourself well enough to make a grounded career decision—and begin creating the conditions in which you can thrive.
Put language around why work feels different so you stop treating it as a personal failing.
Clarify the purpose, flexibility, challenge, security, energy and identity your career needs to support.
Decide whether the answer is to stay, reshape, progress, move or reinvent—without forcing a predetermined outcome.
Turn insight into a realistic direction and practical next steps that fit the life you are actually living.

Amanda helped me reflect, untangle what I felt blocked on and feel clearer about where I was.
Jane“I felt energised and positive after each session—and less tangled.”
Her questions were insightful and made it clear she understood what I was saying.
Rachel“Supportive, empathetic, insightful and warm.”
I felt held in the session and that Amanda had my best interests in mind.
LauraWhy The Rising MOM
I am Amanda Carmichael, founder of The Rising MOM and a qualified coach specialising in career reinvention after motherhood.
After more than a decade in the Royal Navy as a nuclear engineering submariner, motherhood forced me to question a definition of success I had spent years building. The problem was not that I had stopped being ambitious. The career and identity that had once fitted me no longer reflected what I needed from life and work.
I created The Rising MOM to help ambitious mothers understand that shift before making another career decision. My role is not to tell you to leave, stay or start again. It is to help you uncover the answer you can trust—and support you in acting on it.
The complimentary call
You do not need to arrive with a career plan. You only need to be honest about what no longer feels right and open to exploring what may need to change.
To help you make sense of the career friction you are experiencing, identify the most important gap, and decide whether deeper support would be useful.
We talk through what work asks from you, what it gives back and what you need from it now.
We explore whether the issue sits in the role, environment, boundaries, direction, identity—or a combination of them.
You leave with a clearer view of whether your career needs to stay, evolve, move or be reinvented.
If I believe I can help, I will explain what working together could look like. If I do not, I will say so honestly.

Is this the right next step?
Questions you may be asking
That is completely valid. The Rising MOM does not begin with the assumption that you should leave. Your answer may involve stronger boundaries, a different working pattern, renewed progression, an internal move or reconnecting with work you already value.
That is often the reason women seek support. We do not begin by forcing you to choose a job title. We first clarify who you are now, what matters, what you need from work and what has created the disconnect. Direction becomes easier once those foundations are visible.
No. Confidence can be affected when your career no longer fits, but it is rarely the complete explanation. The work examines identity, values, needs, environment, flexibility, ambition and the practical realities of your life—not confidence in isolation.
Gratitude and dissatisfaction can coexist. A career can have been right for you, provided valuable opportunities and still need to evolve. Recognising that does not make you ungrateful; it makes you honest about what is true now.
No. I will ask focused questions, challenge assumptions, help you recognise patterns and turn your insight into decisions. The aim is not dependence on my opinion. It is greater clarity and self-trust in your own.
If the conversation gives you what you need, you can take that clarity away. If you want further support and we both believe the fit is right, I will explain the most appropriate way to work together. There is no obligation to decide on the call.
